Country Signs & Flags

The Parade of Nations is an opportunity for each of our represented countries to introduce themselves to the General Assembly.
For the Parade of Nations, students can create a Country Sign. This sign will be used in the Parade of Nations alongside your country's flag. Country Signs that follow the guidelines listed below will be eligible to receive the Outstanding Country Sign award given out on the final day.
The Flag Bank will be available this year but cannot be reserved ahead of time. Students can check out flags upon arrival, you can review a list of the flags we have HERE.

Country Sign Guidelines

  • Signs cannot exceed 3 ft in height and no more than 1 ft in depth. Signs must be small enough for one student to carry.
  • Country signs should be historically and currently accurate without cultural appropriation, stereotyping, or "making fun" of any aspect of country representation.
  • Country signs with inappropriate depictions of countries will not be allowed to present in the Parade of Nations, may be required to remove from their country display, and/or be removed from receiving awards at the discretion of Y-Staff. If there is a question in regards to a country sign item please reach out to Y-Staff prior to conference.
  • Signs not following these guidelines will not be eligible for the Outstanding Country Sign award.

Students will be instructed to meet outside of General Assembly and will line up in alphabetical order, by country. Once the Parade starts, each country will step on stage and showcase its visuals, exit the stage, and create a line around the border of General Assembly.

Please review the Parade of Nations Guidelines (PDF) prior to attending the conference. If you have any questions about the Parade of Nations, please email Vontella Thomas at vontella@kyymca.org.
